Animals Abused & Abandoned

An American Paint Foal

What would possess a human being to starve a horse nearly to death? Why would someone own a beautiful, statuesque horse with flowing mane and tail and then withhold food and water from it? Yet, we see these dumbfounding images flashing across our computer screens year in and year out. Human neglect, indifference and even willful cruelty toward beautiful, innocent animals knows no bounds.

An American Paint Horse is born and neither its mother nor the baby is given food or medical care. Months later, suffering from severe malnutrition, the foal and his mother are put up for sale at a local auction. They are just two of several abused and neglected horses for sale that day.

A local horse rescue volunteer attended the auction and paid $25 for the foal. One eye was badly infected, and though his abdomen appeared full and well rounded, that is usually a symptom of worms in a malnourished equine. His chest and hind quarters had no muscle mass, and his long neck was concave on both sides.

Due to a lack of calcium, his pastern bones (between his ankle and hoof) may not ever straighten to a normal angle. He was weak, subdued and very frightened of people.
His response to her was to repeatedly nudge her for food, so she named him Nudge.

He now has fresh hay available to him around the clock. He is given a feed called “One n Only” in small, controlled portions. His left eye is clearing up after being treated with antibiotics.
.
Nudge’s current home is a no-frills sanctuary that tries its best to help abused and abandoned horses. This small volunteer rescuer needs our financial assistance to continue caring for this beautiful and innocent animal that we hope will eventually grow into the magnificent, tri-colored American Paint horse that he was meant to be.

Your support will make a huge difference in coaxing him toward a full recovery. Please make your kind and generous donation for Nudge’s continuing care here.
